I decided to see if I could change any settings to improve performance. Started Parallels Desktop then clicked the gear icon in the small control panel window. The settings window opened, then I got a beach ball which after a few seconds stopped spinning. And at that point the whole Mac was frozen. After selecting your favourite video player and learning how to change default open with mac, click on the 'Change All' button. Now all your videos of that format will open and play in that video player. A popup box will then appear, confirm the change and you're done. Note: This method applies to one file format at a time. NOTE: The instructions below are applicable to the Pro Edition of Parallels Desktop for Mac only. If you are using Parallels Desktop Standard edition, visit KB117557. Excellent hint. And remember: it's a git repository (with more useful stuff, just click on the name 'dotfile' on top), so it is maintained, and it can be updated. So check for differences from time to time: you can see what changes were made to this document using the 'history' tab in the top right corner of the document.
